Innovations cause Laziness

The reason why I came up with this topic is because it became very apparent to me the one day when I was sleeping.
Before going to bed, I turned on my air conditioner (AC) and set the temperature to minimum and slept. Later, I woke up and my whole body was shaking. I realized that room has cooled down to extend where I was freezing cold. I turned left, turned right trying to find remote control, but unfortunately I could not find it. And guess what, I did not stand up to switch the AC off; instead, I grabbed the folded blanked under my feet, pull it way over my head, wrapped myself with it and continue sleeping… hmmm....This is the sign of laziness.

The innovations like televisions, internet, remote control, calculator, microwave, hair gel, telephones, and so forth are actually making us lazy and addicted. People are becoming extremely dependent on them. Personally, I think the more we use these so called “innovative products” the lazier we get. So do you think that we are LAZY BECAUSE we are the VICTIMS of INNOVATIONS??? Please state your reasons…

I think the question you asked is very vital enough to make us think about ourselves. Though we are becoming lazy we can not blame on those innovations because we are using or to say facilitating the innovations to help our lives and make it easier. However, we need to limit the dependability on those innovative products, like I said, everything should be limited, as we know the foods are important for our health but if we eat more then we supposed to, it will effect in our health, same thing with the innovations. In conclusion, I would like to mention again, we have to control what we are using and just do not blame on others.

Ok, I do agree with your article but there is a blur point on your article that I couldn’t really get it!!! Hair Gel may lead to laziness? Are you sure?!!! Maybe you don’t really know what is the application of it ;) ok let me teach you, you need to use it once you take the shower and dried your hair. May be you just take shower once a year and just use gel to show it more trimmed!!! Just kidding, let me give my idea, I do believe that, as long as technology is helping us to improve our living standards to achieve to the objectives that we couldn’t get to other wise, is good to accept it. About your story, it is not because of technology, this is the human being’s behavior. Whenever you feel cold, you like to cover your self with the blanket and sleep like a bear in his hibernate!!!

In my opinion I don't think that innovations cause laziness , innovations are man made creation design to improve on your daily life routine , like for example can you imagine if cars wasn't invented you and i would have a tough time to go to college , innovations are the act of working smarter not harder.

However there are disadvantages to innovations , people take for granted and use it for everything without having a limit , so murphy next time you are feeling cold , you can wake up and switch the AC yourself you can do it if u really want it !

Brad when I stated that Hair Gel makes us lazy I meant to say that we all feel LAZY to go and CUT our hair even though it has grown extremely long, as long as there is "EFFORTLESS GEL" with us so we are able to fix our hair without any efforts...
And about me taking shower once a year point of yours....Brad my friend...Do not Think that everyone is LIKE YOU!!(o_o)
Also, Bardia, I would like to make myself clear about my experience....I am not denying that I am Lazy however, what I was trying to say in my post, is that if there was no remote control...I would HAVE TO get up from my place and switch the AC off...Get the Picture??

Modern society needs innovations and improvements for a better development in all domains of activity. Throughout the years, people have discovered many useful things for the society and many of these have improved to our days. Here we can give as examples the bulb, the trains, the cars, the most advanced computers or mobile phones. All these make our lives easier and more pleasant every moment and we cannot imagine life without them.

But sometimes these modern technological innovations make us lazy. Why lazy? Well, let’s take as the first example computers: almost everybody has one at his place and young people are somehow addicted to computers and Internet. Therefore, when they are given a book to read for school, what is the first thing that comes into their minds? ‘I’ll read the summary of it on the internet, as it is much more practical than spending so much time reading it. I could better stay connected to the internet than waste my time with this possible boring book. All this will have a negative consequence because computers will someone ‘gain’ the universe of books and libraries.

Then, let's think about washing-machines of last generation: all housewives have one at their place and the only thing they have to do is to press some buttons and waste a couple of minutes putting into the clothes and then taking them off. Meanwhile the machine does its job, we can do several things like sleeping, going to work, watching TV, cooking or having a walk.

Likewise, cars offer great comfort and there are people who have somehow forgotten what walking on foot means. They are always using their car to go to work, to university, to the supermarket even if that certain place is very close to them.

Finally, the conclusion we can reach is that all these facilities bring comfort to us and this is what makes people lazy. But we have to see the advantages this offers as people don't need to work so hard as in the past, because their work will be substituted by that of machines, which can do a variety of things in less time and under a better quality.

This is an interesting concept. I can visualize how searching for lazy behaviors in a workflow you could potentially find shortcuts that the users themselves have developed through their natural tendency to be "lazy".
A better word for this "lazy" behavior might be the ability for people in general to learn constantly from using a process and/or tool in their job. I would call this "the act of working smarter, not harder."

Well i think to some extend yes it has caused lazyness. But lazyness from onething to another differs. You cant tell me not to use the remote control and go to the receiver and turn the channels from there. But what you did i call real lazyness and careless about your own health.
Innovations will come out every now and then. When people see these new innovations and the one that serves us more without to much work will ofcourse have a high demand. So now if you dont control youself you will fall in the lazymen category and you will find it hard to come out from there again. And only one to blame and thats youself.

To a certain extent, yes it's true that today's innovations have cause more people become lazier. However, innovations like you mentioned telephone,calculator,air-conditioner and internet are useful in today's generations and make our life easier and more efficient but not make us lazier. The innovation like the picture that you attached does make us lazier until we don't need to hold the book when we are reading.I don't think that we are the victims of today's innovations because we our self should know the purpose of these innovations and not the innovations should be blamed for our laziness.

In my opinion, there are pros and cons in every aspect of life in this world. "Innovations cause laziness" is true. This is because people are relying too much on the technologies. They just sit infront of the computer and just move their fingers.Everything is available online nowadays. For example from banking to shopping one can do it online. They dont need to find for parking and queue.
The good things about innovations are that we can save the time, save cost, support the 'paperless environment'and many more. We are able to do things just from our desk. Apart from that, innovations also bring to a healthy competition among individuals or companies.

To conclude ny comment i'd like to suggest that its the time for us as a human beings to change our attitude. Dont forget that we are the one who create the innovations...so i guess we shouldnt blame on it.We have the knowledge but why we misuse it??

"When Fakery Turns Fatal: Food Scares Raise Questions about Chinese Entrepreneurs." Yes, those entrepreneurs are pushing innovations -- substituting inappropriate ingredients into pet foods, pharmaceuticals and baby-milk formula -- that are appalling.
(Taken from New York Times)

Why is this intelligent people have to do this??

So people...think!

In my opinion, innovations does causes laziness in certain extent. People are too rely on technology. Imagine if one day all the technology has been shut down. I think it will causes a lot of problems.

But in the other hand, the laziness is because the human nature. We can control it, it is just about how strong is the determination of that person.

"Society is in a debate over problematic issues such as childhood obesity, addiction to gaming/Internet and how to protect our kids from Internet predators, all of which is blamed on technology."(http://www.helium.com/items/613503-technology-its-effects-on-children). This as we can see is the cause of innovations. People in our grandparents’ generation never had all of this distraction. They had more healthy outdoor games. However, I would say that technology has helped us so much in out daily life until it has become a part of our lives. Without it, we are redundant.
